Boquete has been recognized as one of the best places to retire. Certainly, this picturesque town continues to grow increasingly popular among both national and international residents.
The beautiful town of Boquete is surrounded by steep, lush mountains to the north, east and west, where Barú Volcano is located—the highest peak in Chiriquí at 3,475 meters (11,400 feet). From the rim of this extinct volcano, you can see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Rivers are also abundant in the Boquete area, including the Caldera River, which winds through the center of town.
Boquete is located in the Chiriquí highlands (approximately 300 miles west of Panama City) and 55 miles northeast of the Costa Rica border. To the north, Boquete is just 7 kilometers (3.3 miles) from Bocas del Toro Province. Less than 23.5 miles south lies David City with a population of approximately 145,000.
Complete with a wide variety of hotels and restaurants, Boquete can satisfy the needs of Panamanian and international residents living in the area. While small compared to David, Boquete is the most populated and developed mountain community in Chiriquí, with a very stable population. Many residents operate tourism-oriented businesses.
Named for its abundance of flowers, Boquete is famous for its stunning natural beauty. Coffee grown in Boquete is considered among the finest in the world, and its proximity to tourist and recreational activities including bird watching, hiking, four-wheel trips to Barú Volcano, fishing, golf, rafting and horseback riding is unparalleled.
While the climate is spring-like year-round, days can be warm with cooler nights; a sweater is sometimes needed.
